The Black Cove Complex wildfire continues to affect Polk and Henderson counties, covering a total of 7,670 acres. The blaze, composed of three separate fires – Black Cove, Deep Woods, and Fish Hook – varies in containment, with Black Cove and Deep Woods at 35% and 32% respectively, while Fish Hook is fully contained.

The overnight increase in humidity, aided by rain, has reduced fire activity and aided firefighters in accessing containment lines. The current objective involves patrolling, mopping up hot spots, and repairing areas damaged by firefighting operations. Showers this morning have further helped in controlling the fire.

Authorities continue to assess evacuation levels. Updates for Polk and Henderson counties are available on their respective websites. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) is currently enforced, prohibiting unauthorized drones that may threaten firefighting aircraft.

Governor Josh Stein declared a State of Emergency on March 26 to enhance North Carolina's response capabilities. A statewide ban on open burning, effective since March 21, remains active. Burning permits are suspended and no new permits are being granted.
