The North Carolina Source Water Collaborative has honored individuals and organizations with the Source Water Protection Awards at the Water Resources Research Institute’s annual conference, held recently. These awards aim to acknowledge those who have made significant efforts in safeguarding public drinking water sources.

The awards recognize a range of contributors, including individuals, groups, and agencies, all of whom engage in activities to protect drinking water at its source. The awards were given in two categories during this year’s program.

The Education and Leadership Award was presented to Cape Fear River Watch for their work in PFAS Advocacy and Litter Clean-Up Efforts. Jessica Janc received the Education Award for her role as the High Country Program Director with Collaborative Educational Programs.

The Department of Environmental Quality leads the North Carolina Source Water Collaborative. The partnership is comprised of volunteers from various sectors including non-profit organizations, universities, and government agencies across different levels.

The collaborative's goal is to devise and implement strategies that preserve water bodies such as lakes, rivers, streams, and aquifers, which are essential for drinking water, along with the surrounding land that supports and replenishes these resources.
