Today, North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Secretary Reid Wilson acknowledged Earth Day and the department's efforts in protecting the state’s natural resources.
"I admire the people across North Carolina who are spending Earth Day working and volunteering within their communities to build a healthier environment," said DEQ Secretary Reid Wilson. "We’re all in this together as we work to create a future with clean water, clean air and healthy lands for everyone in our beautiful state."
Secretary Wilson, along with Governor Josh Stein and Department of Natural and Cultural Resources Secretary Pam Cashwell, participated in Earth Day celebrations at Eno River State Park in Durham. The group toured the park and emphasized the importance of environmental protection.
Earlier in the day, Secretary Wilson and DEQ Division of Waste Management staff engaged in a stream clean-up at Apollo Heights Park in Raleigh, focusing on litter removal along Walnut Creek.
During the week, DEQ staff will partake in various community service activities, including stream cleanups and volunteering in community gardens. Details about Earth Day week events can be found at deq.nc.gov/outreach-education/earth-day-2025.
