Bailey Manufacturing Company (BMC) is set to establish a new production facility in Laurinburg, Scotland County, North Carolina, a move projected to create 35 jobs and inject an estimated $4.3 million investment into the area. The development was confirmed today by Governor Josh Stein, underscoring North Carolina's appeal to businesses within various industries.
Governor Stein commented on the development, stating, “Bailey Manufacturing’s decision to locate to Scotland County is more proof that North Carolina is a top state for businesses across all industries. Our state’s manufacturing legacy and longstanding commitment to innovation will continue to attract growing companies to every corner of the state.”
The company, known for supplying stamped metal components to the automotive industry, including clients such as General Motors, will expand its footprint with the 50,000-square-foot facility designed to double its production capacity. This facility will increase the company's manufacturing, warehousing, and administrative capabilities.
BMC President John Hines expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, noting, “Bailey Manufacturing is excited to join the growing list of automotive suppliers in North Carolina. Our new southeast facility will allow us to better serve our growing customer base.” Hines acknowledged the support from North Carolina and local entities in facilitating the project.
According to N.C. Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley, BMC’s presence will bolster the state's automotive supply chain, which encompasses more than 250 manufacturers. Lilley emphasized, “North Carolina is home to 20 of the top global OEM suppliers, the largest manufacturing workforce in the Southeast, and one of the largest state-maintained transportation networks to get parts to customers all over the world.”
The job positions created will offer an average salary of $52,000, surpassing the current average in Scotland County of $46,708, and potentially contributing more than $1.8 million annually to the local payroll.
To aid BMC’s relocation, a performance-based grant of $120,000 from the One North Carolina Fund will be utilized, though companies must first fulfill job creation and capital investment conditions to qualify for payments.
N.C. Senator Danny Earl Britt welcomed BMC’s arrival, emphasizing the readiness of local residents to contribute to the company's success. Similarly, N.C. Representative Garland E. Pierce highlighted the community’s potential, stating the company's decision validates Scotland County as an attractive place for business growth.
Key partners in this initiative include the North Carolina Department of Commerce, the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, the North Carolina General Assembly, and various regional organizations.
