North Carolina agriculture forum to address economic outlook and disaster relief

The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is set to host its 20th annual Agricultural Development Forum this Thursday. The event will coincide with the Southern Farm Show, featuring a discussion on the agricultural economy and disaster relief.

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler will be a central figure at the forum, presenting the Exporter of the Year award and delivering his annual State of Agriculture update. Additionally, he will be sworn in for his sixth term by North Carolina Supreme Court Associate Justice Trey Allen.

The forum will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Holshouser Building, located on the State Fairgrounds in Raleigh. The agenda includes several key sessions:

- At 9:40 a.m., an Oath of Office Ceremony will take place.

- Dr. Jeffrey Dorfman from North Carolina State University will present a 2025 Economic Outlook at 9:50 a.m.

- A roundtable discussion on Hurricane Helene disaster recovery is scheduled for 10:20 a.m., featuring participants such as Kirby Johnson from Flavor First and Jimmy Cowan from NC Farm Bureau.

- RJ Karney, NASDA Director of Policy, will provide insights into the 2025 Policy Outlook at 10:50 a.m.

- The Exporter of the Year Award presentation by Commissioner Troxler is slated for 11:10 a.m.

- A conversation about the state of agriculture with Steve Troxler and Dann Miller will conclude the event at 11:30 a.m.
