With rising COVID-19 cases, Gov. Roy Cooper said that indoor mass gatherings are, once again, limited — this time to 10 people.
Cooper's order came on Nov. 10 as cases continue to climb in the state and nationwide to levels not previously experienced at any point during the pandemic.
"This reduction in our indoor gathering limit aims to slow the spread and bring down our numbers," Cooper said in a release about the latest restriction just before the Thanksgiving holiday. "It also sends a serious signal to families, friends and neighbors across our state. Success in slowing the spread will help our businesses."
The order limiting gatherings went into effect on Nov. 13 and will continue until Friday, Dec. 4.
"Let's keep our friends, family, and loved ones safe this holiday season. If you are going to travel or get together, plan ahead to reduce the risk to your family and friends," North Carolina Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy Cohen said in the release. "Remember, it's not how well you know someone when it comes to wearing a mask. If they don't live with you, get behind the mask. "
North Carolina has reported more than 325,000 COVID-19 cases since the start of the health crisis, the state health department reported. Currently, 1,538 are hospitalized, and the state has nearly an 8% daily positivity rate.
