CITY OF WILSON: City Expands Free Public Wi-Fi to Keep Residents Connected

Cp

City of Wilson issued the following announcement on April 10.

The City of Wilson, through Greenlight Community Broadband, recently added new public Wi-Fi access points to help Wilson residents stay connected during the coronavirus pandemic. Greenlight added 30 new public Wi-Fi access points to expand coverage throughout Wilson. While available to everyone, the project was designed to provide students with a convenient Wi-Fi option for remote learning.

The new points are positioned throughout neighborhoods, community centers and city parks.

“During these uncertain times, we want to do what we can to make daily living easier for everybody, especially for our children,” said Wilson Mayor Carlton Stevens. “The expanded coverage makes it easier for students to continue learning from their home or very close to home.”

The city also added a new map to show all of the new access points. To find the Wi-Fi closest to your house, enter your address at: https://gis.wilsonnc.org/CommunityMaps/greenlighthotspots.  Connect to “City of Wilson Free Wifi” with no password required.

“Greenlight was built for Wilson by Wilson,” said City Manager Grant Goings. “We are mission-driven, not profit driven, and we can act quickly to help our community get through these challenging times.”

Additional access points can be added if needed. If you live inside the City of Wilson corporate limits and do not have Internet or Wi-Fi access, please contact Greenlight at glsupport@wilsonnc.org

Greenlight also introduced a new lifeline service option to provide basic internet service for $10 per month. More information is available at www.greenlightnc.com.
