Duke Health, WakeMed, and Lifepoint Health have officially opened Peak Rehabilitation Hospital in Apex, North Carolina. This 52-bed facility is the result of a joint venture announced in 2021 between Duke Health, WakeMed, and Lifepoint Rehabilitation, a division of Lifepoint Health.
Craig Albanese, M.D., CEO of Duke University Health System, stated: “The health challenges of our communities are complex, and we are proud to partner with WakeMed and Lifepoint Health to provide patients and their families access to innovative, cost-effective and high-quality inpatient rehab care.”
Both Duke Health and WakeMed host comprehensive rehabilitation programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), supporting both children and adults towards recovery.

Lifepoint Health has been partnering with Duke Health since 2011 through Duke Lifepoint Healthcare. The two-story hospital covers over 60,000 square feet featuring private rooms, therapy gyms, therapeutic courtyards with gardens and walking paths. Rob Warfuel, CEO of Peak Rehabilitation Hospital noted: “Today is a remarkable day for patients in and beyond Wake County...we have built an industry-leading clinical team here in Apex."
Lifepoint Rehabilitation will oversee daily operations at the facility which provides acute rehabilitation care for various conditions including strokes and traumatic brain injuries.
