The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) is scheduled to convene on February 26 and 27 at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront, located at 100 Middle Street, New Bern. The meeting will be accessible to the public both in-person and online.
The CRC's regular business session will start at 3 p.m. on February 26 and continue at 9 a.m. on February 27. A public comment period is set for noon on February 27, where comments may be restricted to three minutes per person, depending on the chair’s discretion. Meanwhile, the Coastal Resources Advisory Council will hold an in-person meeting on February 26 at 1 p.m. at the same venue.
Agenda items for the CRC meeting include consideration of variance requests concerning Carolina Beach's artificial turf in a buffer zone, North Topsail Beach's oceanfront setback, and sandbags at The Shoals Club on Bald Head Island. Additionally, there will be a public hearing regarding the installation and maintenance of wheat straw bales for sand fencing.
On February 27, discussions will cover updates on litigation related to CRC vs. RRC, objections from the Rules Review Commission, major permits follow-up, recommendations for permanent rulemaking concerning environmental concerns and ocean hazard areas, as well as a petition for rulemaking procedures.
