City of Asheboro issued the following announcement on Feb. 5.

Social District changes, including new boundaries for the district, went into effect February 1.

 If you choose to participate, it is your responsibility to know and follow the rules. 

 February 1st, 2023, the Zoo City Social District map has changed to allow more business participation. 

Just a reminder

-The days and hours during which alcoholic beverages may be consumed within the Zoo City Social District are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. on each of the listed days.

-Responsibilities of Consumers with Open Containers of Alcoholic Beverages

(1) Any person who violates the Social District ordinance, and any person who aids, abets, encourages, assists in, or contributes to a violation of the Social District ordinance shall be guilty of a Class 3 misdemeanor punishable as provided in G.S. 14-4, with a maximum fine of no more than $500.00

(2) Only alcoholic beverages in containers described above purchased from a permittee located in or contiguous to the Social District may be possessed within the Social District for consumption off of the permittee’s licensed premises

(3) Any alcoholic beverage purchased for consumption in the Social District shall only be consumed in the Social District, and, unless the person is reentering the licensed premises where the alcoholic beverage was purchased, the beverage shall be disposed of before the person in possession of the alcoholic beverage exits the Social District

(4) No person shall enter a licensed premises with an alcoholic beverage not purchased from the permittee operating the licensed premises

(5) Consumers with an alcoholic beverage shall only enter participating businesses within the Social District, as signified by having uniform signage of the Social District logo prominently placed on the entrance(s).
