TOWN OF CARY: Closures to Begin on Crabtree Creek Greenway for Sewer Renovation

Close

Town of Cary issued the following announcement on Jan. 19.

Beginning January 24, a 1.3 mile segment of the Crabtree Creek Greenway will close to the public to allow for the rehabilitation of a major sewer pipeline along the trail. This closure will run between Evans Road and the bridge approaching the Black Creek Greenway, and is expected to be in place until work is completed in late spring/early summer 2022. A signed detour using parts of the Evans Road sidewalk and the Weston and Black Creek Greenways will be in place throughout the duration of the work.

This closure and its associated work is a part of the town’s ongoing sewer rehabilitation and replacement program , which is aimed at renewing aging wastewater lines to protect public health, safeguard the environment, and reduce the risk of disruptive and costly emergency repairs as they approach the end of their service lives. “This critical project represents Cary’s commitment to the safety, health, and enjoyment of its citizens,” said Utilities Director Jamie Revels. “It’s especially important that we continue to minimize disruptions and provide detour options so citizens can continue to enjoy Cary’s natural beauty while we update critical infrastructure.”

The work is the first phase of a larger initiative of sewer rehabilitation and greenway renovations in the area, which have been carefully orchestrated to prevent service disruptions, maximize efficiency, and reduce the need for detours in the area. Upon completion of the work along the Crabtree Creek Greenway, a similar rehabilitation and closure will begin along the adjacent Black Creek Greenway, followed by reconstruction of the trail. The Town will also continue to release updates and important communications on greenway status and availability throughout the project on its social media channels and on townofcary.org.
