The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Coastal Management is set to hold a public hearing regarding the Coastal Area Management Act application for the proposed Mid-Currituck Bridge project. The event is scheduled for March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Town of Duck’s Town Hall, located at 1200 Duck Road.
In February 2025, NCDEQ announced that it had received a complete application from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the North Carolina Turnpike Authority on January 7, 2025. The application pertains to TIP No. R-2576, which involves constructing the Mid-Currituck Bridge over Currituck Sound from Aydlett to south of Corolla, along with improvements to existing roadways in Currituck and Dare Counties.
The public hearing will be held in person only. Those wishing to speak can register onsite beginning at 4 p.m., using a sign-in sheet. Written comments are also welcomed and can be submitted during the hearing or mailed or emailed by April 17, 2025.
Comments should be directed to Tancred Miller, Director of the Division of Coastal Management, at their office address or via email with "Mid-Currituck CAMA application" in the subject line. All feedback will play a role in deciding whether to grant the permit for this project. Interested parties can request notification regarding the final permit decision.
