The North Carolina Supreme Court has decided to remove Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s name from the state's ballot, following his request to do so after initially wanting to be included. This decision, made on Monday night, is expected to delay absentee voting by several weeks.
The ruling comes after the deadline for county election boards to send out absentee ballots. It may cost taxpayers approximately $1 million for reprinting new ballots.
Bob Phillips, Executive Director of Common Cause North Carolina, criticized the court's decision as "overtly partisan" and detrimental to voters in the state. He stated that the ruling will postpone mail-in voting by two weeks or more and impose financial burdens on county election budgets already facing limited resources.
Phillips expressed concern over Kennedy's inconsistent actions regarding his candidacy and accused the court of prioritizing political interests over voter needs. Despite disagreeing with the decision, Common Cause NC remains committed to assisting voters in exercising their right to vote in this year's elections. The organization encourages those with questions about delayed absentee ballots to contact the NC Election Protection Hotline at 888-OUR-VOTE.
Common Cause North Carolina describes itself as a nonpartisan grassroots organization focused on promoting democracy, equal rights, and representation for all citizens while ensuring government accountability.
