U.S. Sen. and Republican Vice President nominee J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Vice President Kamala Harris (D) is blaming U.S. citizens for their complaints about how her open border policies have negatively their lives.
"Our message to Kamala Harris is: How dare you call people racist for wanting to close down that wide-open border," Vance said during an address in Charlotte. "How dare you call the citizens of your own country 'bad people' because they don't want a flood of illegal migration in their country."
"How dare you attack the citizens of your own country for not wanting their children to die of fentanyl overdoses," said Vance. "How dare you call the citizens of your own country 'bad people.' You're a bad person for causing this border crisis. We are not bad people for complaining about it."
Vice President Kamala Harris was appointed as “Border Czar” by President Joe Biden on March 24, 2021, “to lead efforts to stamp migration across the U.S.-Mexico border.” He reportedly asked Harris to focus on Mexico and the Northern Triangle — El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, countries that will "need help stemming the movement of so many folks, stemming the migration to our southern border," Biden said.
Harris was tasked with both curbing the current flow of migrants and implementing a long-term strategy that addresses the root causes of migration. Cabinet members were also expected to work closely with Harris on these issues.
Since Harris’ appointment, the “surge” of illegal aliens crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly the Southwest portion of the U.S., has grown worse.
During fiscal year 2024 to date, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has arrested 41,780 illegal aliens who have previous criminal convictions or who are wanted by law enforcement, according to CBP data.
There were only 646,822 illegal alien encounters in Fiscal Year 2020 when the Biden-Harris Administration first entered office.
Vance made two speeches in Charlotte on Monday, September 23. The first, held at the Dale F. Halton Theater, was given at 5 p.m. and the second, at the Freedom House Church, began around 6:30 p.m. Vance had previously held a rally in Raleigh on September 16, while Democratic vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz spoke in Asheville on September 17.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak in Mint Hill on September 25.
