WASHINGTON – Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) expressed strong criticism towards the Department of Education's handling of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Foxx called out the Department for its ongoing errors in the FAFSA rollout, stating, "Biden’s Education Department is at it again—today announcing it botched hundreds of thousands of aid packages for families with no timeline on fixing those errors. This is after a bungled launch filled with technical errors left millions of students and families still without information about their financial aid packages—critical information required to know what they can afford before enrolling in school. Mr. President, some of us set budgets before spending money recklessly."

She further criticized the Department's lack of transparency and communication, saying, "While this dysfunction continues, the Committee’s request for answers and information on behalf of students, families, and institutions is met with obfuscation and a total unwillingness to communicate."

Foxx also took aim at Secretary Cardona, accusing him of trying to shift blame onto others for the failures. She suggested, "Perhaps the Department should invest in additional mirrors across its offices—the Secretary would do well to take a long, hard look into one."

The Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman's remarks highlight the frustration and concerns surrounding the Department of Education's handling of FAFSA, emphasizing the need for accountability and improvement in the administration of financial aid for students and families.
