WASHINGTON –Today, the Education and the Workforce Committee advanced four bills to support students and workers: H.J. Res. 116, H.R. 6418, H.R. 3724, and H.R. 7683. Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx expressed the importance of these bills, stating, "Partisan accreditors, political litmus tests, and the degradation of Constitutional rights on campus are reducing the value of education programs and setting students back."

H.J. Res. 116 aims to nullify the Biden administration’s independent contractor rule and uphold entrepreneurial opportunities and flexibility. Foxx highlighted that this resolution offers Congress a chance to oppose the Department’s push for more government control over America’s workforce.

Regarding H.R. 6418, known as the Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act, it allows state entities to provide pre-planning subgrants to aspiring charter school leaders and offer more technical assistance to applicants, enhancing the support for charter schools.

The Accreditation for College Excellence Act of 2023, represented by H.R. 3724, prohibits accreditors from evaluating institutions based on ideology, belief, or viewpoint to receive Higher Education Act funding. This bill also restricts accreditors from imposing additional accreditation standards for HEA funding.

Additionally, H.R. 7683, the Respecting the First Amendment on Campus Act, focuses on safeguarding free speech on campus as a requirement for institutions receiving Title IV funds under the HEA. It mandates institutions to annually disclose their First Amendment policies and prohibits the enforcement of political litmus tests on students, faculty, or applicants.

These bills collectively aim to empower students and workers by promoting education freedom, supporting charter school leaders, ensuring fair accreditation practices, and protecting free speech on college campuses. The committee's actions emphasize the importance of providing opportunities for growth and success in America's education and workforce sectors.
