WASHINGTON – Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) delivered the following statement at the Committee's markup session. Foxx expressed gratitude towards her colleagues for their efforts in drafting legislative measures aimed at strengthening education and workforce-related issues.

Foxx highlighted the significance of the bills under discussion, emphasizing the Committee's commitment to enhancing parents' rights, lowering college costs, and promoting student achievement. She stressed the importance of maintaining viewpoint neutrality in public colleges and universities, advocating for a balanced approach free from ideological influence.

Discussing specific bills, Foxx praised Rep. Owens' Accreditation for College Excellence Act for ensuring colleges' independence from politically charged ideologies to receive accreditation. She also lauded Rep. Williams' Respecting the First Amendment on Campus Act, which aims to uphold the full spectrum of First Amendment rights on public college campuses.

Foxx urged support for the Empower Charter School Educators to Lead Act, stating that it promotes freedom and educational opportunities in the charter school sector without introducing new spending. She emphasized the role of charter schools as innovative alternatives within the education system.

Transitioning to workforce issues, Foxx underscored the Committee's dedication to protecting workers from regulatory overreach. She voiced support for Rep. Kiley's Congressional Review Act resolution, which aims to counteract a rule issued by the Biden administration that could negatively impact independent contractors across the country.

In conclusion, Foxx expressed appreciation for her colleagues' leadership on these critical matters and looked forward to advancing the proposed measures for consideration by the full House.
