WASHINGTON – Today, Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05), Committee on House Administration Chairman Bryan Steil (WI-01), Committee on Education and the Workforce Vice Chair Mary Miller (IL-15), and Elections Subcommittee Chair Laurel Lee (FL-15) have voiced strong criticism against the Biden administration's new policy allowing Federal Work-Study funds to be used in support of campaign efforts during the 2024 election cycle.
In a letter sent to the administration, the Chairs and senior members of the Committees expressed their concerns, stating, "For Americans to have confidence not only in their elections but also in their federal government, taxpayer dollars should not be used for political ends like get-out-the-vote activities or targeted voter registration drives."
The letter highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of the electoral process, especially as the country approaches a presidential election. The lawmakers emphasized the need to bolster voters' confidence in the election systems to ensure faith in the results.
The lawmakers also raised issues regarding the transparency and neutrality of the program, pointing out a particular incident involving Vice President Harris. They noted, "Americans are well aware that both groups have very strong, left-leaning ties. As such, voters cannot trust that this new program will not run afoul of federal law or be used by partisan students to help their political party win an election."
In conclusion, the Committees urged the Administration to retract the recent letter allowing taxpayer dollars to fund get-out-the-vote activities. The lawmakers emphasized the importance of upholding the law and ensuring that the government remains impartial, especially in the context of election campaigns.
