Mar 11 2024 - Today, Education and the Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) criticized President Biden’s FY 2025 budget proposal, calling it a collection of failed policies and fiscal irresponsibility. Foxx stated, "President Biden’s FY25 budget is not a fiscal panacea – it will make the nation keel over from shouldering more unsustainable and irresponsible debt." She emphasized the need for a trimmed, fiscally sound budget that prioritizes accountability to the American people.
Foxx expressed concern over various aspects of President Biden’s budget, highlighting the lack of accountability in the allocations for the Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services. She stated, "Under his proposal, the Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services would gobble up more taxpayer dollars without any shred of accountability to the very people who they purport to serve."
Specifically, Foxx criticized the education component of the budget, pointing out reckless proposals such as creating free community college and increasing the Pell Grant without ensuring that students receive degrees that lead to high-quality jobs. She also raised eyebrows at the provision of free meals to the children of doctors, lawyers, and lobbyists.
In the workforce sector, Foxx highlighted the budget allocations for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Department of Labor (DOL), expressing concern over the hiring of new bureaucrats and attorneys to strengthen litigation against employers. Additionally, she noted that the NLRB, DOL, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission are seeking increased fines to be imposed on employers.
Foxx concluded by asserting the need for a more fiscally judicious path, stating, "With the imperative of delivering unfettered accountability to the American people in mind, we must chart a more fiscally judicious path than the one that the president intends to take this nation down."
