City of Albemarle issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.
You’ve probably seen or heard about the new electric scooters in Albemarle. Here’s what you need to know before you ride:
-You’ll need to download the Peel Scooter company’s app and register as a rider.
-The Peel Scooter App will help you locate the nearest available scooter.
-The Peel Company charges $1 to unlock the scooter and 30 cents per minute to ride.
Albemarle City Council recently approved rules & regulations for scooters to be used safely.
Some of the key rules are:
-Riders must be age 16 or older
-Stay off sidewalks downtown
-Follow traffic laws
-Riders encouraged to wear a helmet
Peel Scooters will deactivate a rider’s account for violating rules.

Peel Scooters are provided at no cost to the City and Peel Scooters has agreed to hold all liability for the operation of the scooters.
