Former President Donald Trump was one of the draws for a rally in Johnston County Saturday night, where he and several North Carolina lawmakers who he has endorsed discussed how to get America back on track.
The politicians appeared at The Farm at 95 in Selma, which has become a popular stop for Republican candidates, with Trump mentioning a number of candidates he's backing in the upcoming election, including Rep. Ted Budd, who is running for the Senate, as well as Rep. Madison Cawthorn, Rep. Greg Murphy, Rep. Dan Bishop, and congressional candidate Bo Hines.
"I'm thrilled to be back in the great state of North Carolina with thousands of proud hard-working American patriots,” Trump was shown saying on WTVD as he fired up the crowd. “With your vote this November, we can stop our nation's decline. We can make America great again!”
“(Former) President Trump knows that we need conservative fighters in the Senate who will not waver from America First principles,” Budd said. “Now, others seeking this Republican nomination, they might cave, but you can count on me to stay strong.”
Cawthorn outlined his strategy for winning in his district.
"The key to saving our nation is not going after these voters that don't exist but going after the disenfranchised man and woman in our country,” he said. “The people who don't even bother to vote because it's been proven to them time and time again that the government will never work on their behalf.”
North Carolina voters can cast ballots in the primary May 17, with early voting starting on April 28.
