CITY OF BELMONT: City Council Considerations for the old Belmont Middle School Redevelopment

Renovation

City of Belmont issued the following announcement on Feb. 9.

The Belmont City Council met this past weekend for their annual planning retreat and discussed potential redevelopment uses for the Belmont Middle School. During the discussion, the council outlined uses they would consider and not consider for the site. Any redevelopment will need to go through a conditional rezoning process or obtain a special use permit.

Uses the Belmont City Council would consider for the redevelopment of the old Belmont Middle School:

  • Boutique hotel
  • Mixed-use that could include:
    • Retail/commercial
    • Offices
    • Upscale condos (for purchase only)
    • Co-working spaces
    • Food Hall
    • Civic use such as new space for the local library and/or historical museum
Any redevelopment plan must include keeping the original structure built in 1938.

The city council would consider partnering with a developer on the right redevelopment plan.

The redevelopment plan should have connectivity to Stowe Park.

The city council encourages redevelopment options that put an emphasis on keeping this property as a continued asset to the Belmont community.

Uses the Belmont City Council would not consider for the redevelopment of the old Belmont Middle School:

  • Apartments
  • Senior housing
  • Schools
If you are interested in redeveloping the school, please contact the city manager’s office at 704-825-5586.
