Achievements

City of Albemarle issued the following announcement on Aug. 11.

Albemarle Awarded Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

City Manager Michael Ferris is pleased to announce that Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to City of Albemarle for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2020. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest level of award from the GFOA for financial reporting. This is the fourth consecutive year the City’s annual report has received this prestigious award. The City’s annual report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources, and practical research for more than 21,000 members and the communities they serve. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

“I want to express my appreciation and commend all the employees for their efforts and dedication throughout the year” said City Manager Michael Ferris. “Specifically, for the work of Jacob Weavil, Finance Director, and the work the entire Finance staff have done to place the City in such a strong position to make this award a possibility. Retired Finance Director Colleen Conroy also contributed greatly to the Department’s success and this achievement.”

Finance Director Jacob Weavil echoed the City Manager’s comments. “As Finance Director, I would also like to thank the Finance staff and the previous Finance Director, Colleen Conroy, for their work on last year’s annual report.”
