City of Whiteville issued the following announcement.
The Columbus County Health Department reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday with no new deaths. The total is now 1,419.
The county saw 11 additional cases on Monday, nine on Tuesday, 14 on Wednesday and one on Thursday. Currently, there are 177 active COVID-19 cases, with seven residents in the hospital.
On Sept. 25, Premier Living and Rehab Center reported on Facebook an outbreak at its facility, with one staff member and one individual. The assisted living facility has been testing its staff every two weeks since August and is now testing both residents and staff twice a week.
The total number of deaths still stands at 57, according to the health department.
Approximately 16,192 swab tests and 9,846 rapid tests have been conducted in the county since the beginning of the pandemic.
One new school case
Columbus County Schools spokesperson Kelly Jones reported one new COVID-19 case at Acme Delco Elementary School but said that no school contacts of the person were ordered quarantined by the health department.
Whiteville City Schools Superintendent Marc Whichard reported no new positive cases Thursday morning.
Columbus Charter School had no cases, said Headmaster Steve Smith. He said one student was quarantined due to a non-school contact.
Thomas Academy and Columbus Christian Academy also reported no cases.
