CITY OF WHITEVILLE: Columbus adds 67 COVID-19 cases; total of 205 active

City of Whiteville issued the following announcement.

The Columbus County Health Department reported 67 new COVID-19 cases in the county on Wednesday. There have been no deaths since Aug. 31.

The department confirmed one case on Sept. 2, 12 on Thursday, 13 on Friday, two on Saturday, two on Sunday, eight on Monday, 17 on Tuesday and 12 on Wednesday. The county’s total number of COVID-19 cases is now 1,224 with 52 deaths.

In Whiteville, Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center reported two staff infections, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday.

Hwy 55 Burgers, Shakes & Fries also announced on Facebook on Wednesday that some of its employees have been exposed to the virus.

“We will only be doing to-go orders while we take time to completely sanitize the store and also get our employees tested to make sure we are being as cautious as possible,” the Facebook post stated.

Within Columbus County, there are 205 active cases, with two residents in the hospital, according to the health department. Over 960 individuals have recovered from the virus. The county has administered approximately 13,376 COVID-19 tests.
