University of North Carolina Charlotte issued the following announcement.
New Student & Family Services (NSFS), within the Division of Student Affairs and in collaboration with Academic Affairs, has developed a new onboarding initiative called Year One Launch.
As the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the academic calendar and ways students may be able to engage with campus, Year One Launch offers new, incoming students an opportunity to build community, access resources, develop healthy habits and learn about UNC Charlotte prior to the start of the academic year.
Year One Launch will integrate events happening from Aug. 3 through Sept. 3 into the Gold Rush guide in the Niner DestiNation mobile app, so that students can access all onboarding and welcome events in one place. This program is designed to support students’ development in three key areas:
- Student Success: UNC Charlotte is committed to students’ success in their academic classes. Academic, personal and career development benefit from an increased capacity for critical self-reflection, structured course planning and self-efficacy
- Belonging: UNC Charlotte is committed to an environment where students identify as a part of the 49er community. Students should establish meaningful relationships with their peers, faculty members and staff members. Students succeed when they access the opportunities and resources available on-campus and in the city of Charlotte
- Financial Literacy: UNC Charlotte is committed to educating students about the financial investment they are making in their future. Information and resources provided to students and families enable them to make better decisions about their financial aid options and manage their personal finances
Program proposals must be submitted by Friday, July 24. Proposals will ask for the following information:
- Event name, date, time, description
- Sponsoring department and contact information
- Event format/web link
- Connection to onboarding theme
Concurrently, the new Year One website provides students with information on opportunities, resources and connection points available to them through their first year.
