WakeMed has received approval from the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services to move forward with its new healthplex in Fuquay-Varina. The certificate of need allows WakeMed to construct a 25,000 square-foot facility that will include a 24/7 emergency department, diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and pharmacy services.

The new site will be WakeMed’s fifth healthplex and its ninth full-service emergency department. According to projections, approximately 9,300 patients are expected to be treated at the Fuquay-Varina Emergency Department during its first year of operation.

A statement from WakeMed noted: “We are pleased that the State approved the application, demonstrating the need for convenient, high-quality care in the Fuquay-Varina area.”

WakeMed is an established health system in North Carolina and continues to expand access to medical services across the region.
