WakeMed was named one of the nation’s top hospitals for pediatric care by Money magazine, according to an April 6 announcement. The hospital is one of only three in North Carolina to receive this recognition.

The ranking highlights WakeMed’s role as a key provider of pediatric services and underscores its impact on health care for children in the region. The distinction comes after Money evaluated thousands of hospitals across the country and selected 75 with the highest overall rankings based on factors such as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) ratings, quality of care, price transparency, and collective pediatric expertise.

According to the release, “the 75 top-performing hospitals earned either a four- or five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and have designated facilities staffed by experienced pediatric specialists.” WakeMed is home to WakeMed Children’s Hospital, which is described as “the only pediatric inpatient care provider in Wake County.” The hospital also offers comprehensive services including a dedicated Children’s Emergency Department, advanced surgical procedures, intensive care units for both pediatrics and neonates, and inpatient as well as outpatient rehabilitation programs.

WakeMed contributed to community well-being as a key health care provider in the region according to the official website. The organization features healthplexes with emergency departments and outpatient services along with a network of physician practices across various specialties according to the official website. In addition to its recent honor from Money magazine, WakeMed was previously recognized among the nation’s top maternity hospitals according to the official website.

WakeMed represents the largest health system in Wake County according to the official website, focusing on enhancing community health through exceptional and compassionate care according to the official website. Donald Gintzig holds the role of president and CEO at WakeMed under oversight from a volunteer Board of Directors according to the official website.

The hospital said that every day its team cares for nearly 160,000 babies and children each year. “Every day, the WakeMed Children’s team of highly-trained nurses, therapists, child life specialists and physicians care for some of the sickest children in our community with tremendous expertise and compassion—serving nearly 160,000 babies and children every year,” according to their statement.
