Children under 12 will be allowed to visit all hospital nursing units and patient care areas at WakeMed starting Monday, February 16. The health system announced that the decline in respiratory illnesses in the community has led to a return to normal visitation policies.

“Visitation restrictions help reduce the risk of infection for patients, and we are appreciative of the support and cooperation of our patients, their loved ones, and the surrounding community over the past two months,” WakeMed stated.

WakeMed is recognized as the largest health system in Wake County, North Carolina, operating several campuses with acute care hospitals and offering a range of services such as emergency care, heart treatment, orthopedics, children’s services, cancer care, and women’s health. The organization has received national recognition for its maternity care and holds advanced certifications for joint replacements. More information about its services can be found on its official website.

The health system plays a key role in regional health care by providing comprehensive and compassionate services through its network of physician practices across various specialties. Its facilities include healthplexes with emergency departments and outpatient services. WakeMed’s efforts focus on enhancing community well-being through exceptional patient care. Donald Gintzig serves as president and CEO under the oversight of a volunteer Board of Directors. Further details about WakeMed’s contributions to community health are available at wakemed.org.
