People seeking agritourism activities in North Carolina now have access to a statewide listing through the Visit NC Farms website. The platform, which previously operated as a mobile app, has transitioned to a website to improve accessibility for both visitors and farm operators. This change allows farms to update their event information more quickly and enables users to browse offerings from any device without needing an app download.

The Visit NC Farms initiative began in 2018 as a mobile application that connected residents and tourists with local farms, farmers markets, food experiences, and agritourism destinations across North Carolina. According to Erica Calderon, agritourism marketing specialist, “Interest in agritourism continues to grow and visitors have even more options today. Visit NC Farms has always been about connecting people to the food, farms and communities that make North Carolina unique, and we hope visitors will check out the new website when they are looking to make plans.”

The new website offers nine category filters—such as farm visits, u-pick operations, farm stays, farmers markets, trails, workshops, sips + bites, and special events—to help users easily find relevant experiences. Calderon noted that this approach makes exploring options simple and intuitive.

Farmers can list their businesses or events on the platform at no cost. The move is intended to increase participation from across the state by removing barriers for smaller or remote operations. Additionally, the site allows for faster updates of listings so information remains current throughout the year.

Dedicated resources are available through the platform to support agribusinesses in getting listed and submitting seasonal events. “The app gave us a strong start, and now the website allows us to take that mission even further,” Calderon said.

This development reflects ongoing efforts by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) to invest in agritourism and marketing for local agricultural businesses. The program aims to maintain its core mission while expanding opportunities for farms statewide.
