The University of North Carolina at Charlotte announced on May 4 that all campus buildings will require card access from Friday, May 8, through Monday, May 18. During this period, faculty, staff and students must use their mobile or physical 49er ID cards to enter any campus building.
This update comes as classes are not in session and is part of the university’s standard safety measures. The protocol aligns with practices at other large campuses to help ensure security when fewer people are present.
Most campus buildings will be accessible only via swipe access during these dates. However, several facilities are exempt from this requirement. These include Athletic Facilities, Atkins Library, Barnhardt Student Activity Center (SAC), Cone University Center, Dubois Center, FM/PPS Building, Facilities Operations and Parking (FOPS), Gage Undergraduate Admissions Center, Joyce Davis Waddell Center for Health and Student Wellness, Popp Martin Student Union, Prospector (REPROS), SoVi (Mail and Package Services), and the University Recreation Center.
Students who do not have a physical Niner ID card can download a mobile version to their phones to ensure continued access during the restricted period.
The university encourages everyone on campus to review building access hours in advance and prepare accordingly.
