The University of North Carolina at Charlotte Board of Trustees met on April 29 to review reports and take action on several key university initiatives, according to a summary released on May 4.

The meeting covered progress in academics, fundraising, research, athletics, and student life. The board also approved the university’s refreshed strategic plan for 2026–2031 and the fiscal year 2026–27 All Funds Budget.

Chancellor Sharon Gaber said UNC Charlotte will confer nearly 5,800 degrees this spring. She highlighted that the university will serve as a primary venue for the 2027 Military World Games, hosting about three-quarters of Charlotte-based activities. Gaber also reported continued momentum in fundraising campaigns with more than $400 million raised through “For the Love of Charlotte” and record participation in Niner Nation Gives.

The board heard updates on research partnerships and advocacy efforts aimed at expanding UNC Charlotte’s impact. Thirty-one graduate programs are now ranked among U.S. News Top 100 programs. Chancellor Gaber presented “The Charlotte Difference: A Plan for National Distinction, 2026–2031,” which sets priorities including student success, research growth, regional impact, and national distinction.

Committee reports included legislative updates focusing on enrollment funding as a system priority; financial reviews supporting capital improvements such as parking deck restorations; compliance efforts centering on digital accessibility rules; athletics performance highlights from new Athletics Director Kevin White; rapid growth in online business program enrollment; ROTC leadership development initiatives; faculty governance work around academic policy updates; staff recognition programs; and student government transitions with Madison Brown sworn in as SGA president following record voter turnout.

Enrollment management associate provost Claire Kirby discussed demographic trends affecting admissions but noted stable first-year applications and increased transfer deposits. The board unanimously approved tenure and promotions for all candidates under review.
