Richard Hudson, a representative from North Carolina, has called for an immediate end to the rise in antisemitic threats and violence during pro-Hamas campus protests. This statement was made on the social media platform X.
“What we’re seeing from Pro-Hamas protestors on college campuses is unacceptable,” said Hudson. “The antisemitic threats, violence, and chaos must stop. I stand with President Donald J. Trump and Sen. Marco Rubio to say: enough is enough.”
In May 2025, a series of pro-Hamas demonstrations across U.S. college campuses resulted in multiple antisemitic incidents, including violence and arrests. According to the New York Post, protesters at Columbia University stormed Butler Library, injuring security staff, while 14 individuals were arrested at Brooklyn College following a violent protest. These events have brought national attention to campus safety and the treatment of Jewish students, prompting federal scrutiny and calls for accountability.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) reported a record 9,354 antisemitic incidents in the U.S. in 2024, averaging more than 25 per day. The New York Post’s coverage of the ADL findings indicated that 58% of those incidents were connected to anti-Israel sentiment, with a notable increase on college campuses. These incidents included acts of vandalism, harassment, and physical assault, highlighting growing hostility toward Jewish students and institutions.
The U.S. government has revoked over 300 student and visitor visas linked to individuals participating in campus protests with alleged ties to antisemitic or extremist activity. Reports by Time and the American Council on Education note that some international students have faced detention or deportation, raising legal and civil rights concerns. Federal authorities maintain that these actions are necessary for national security and to enforce visa conditions.
Hudson is a Republican representing North Carolina’s 9th District and has served in Congress since 2013. He is a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. According to his official House biography, Hudson chairs the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and supports strong national security measures, including border enforcement and defense funding.
