The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of North Carolina is set to participate in National Night Out events across several communities within the district. The annual event aims to foster relationships between law enforcement and local residents, focusing on neighborhood safety.

Clifton T. “Cliff” Barrett, United States Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina, said, “The Middle District of North Carolina has a long and proud history of working with local people — law enforcement and members of the public alike – to improve neighborhood safety and the quality of life in our communities. National Night Out is a touchstone of those efforts, building mutual understanding and respect by bringing law enforcement and residents together on equal terms.”

National Night Out is an initiative that encourages collaboration between police officers and community members through various activities such as block parties, cookouts, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel. The campaign takes place annually on the first Tuesday in August across thousands of communities nationwide.

Founded in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance under the U.S. Department of Justice, National Night Out is administered by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit organization. Local law enforcement agencies coordinate these events with assistance from trained volunteers.

Representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office will attend scheduled events throughout cities including Winston-Salem (Calvary Baptist Church), Greensboro (100 Police Plaza), High Point (Oakview Rec Center), Burlington (Lamb’s Chapel Airport Campus), and Reidsville (Woodland Park). Community members are encouraged to check local resources for more information on events happening nearby.
