Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) issued a statement expressing condolences on the death of former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt.

“Susan and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Governor Jim Hunt, who was one of the most consequential public servants in North Carolina’s history. His commitment to public education and economic development made a profound impact on our state that continues to this day. We send our deepest condolences to his loving family,” Tillis said.

Senator Tillis has served as a U.S. Senator for North Carolina since 2015. He won his seat in the 2014 general election against Kay Hagan, receiving 48.8% of the vote compared to Hagan’s 47.3%. In his 2020 re-election bid, he defeated Cal Cunningham with 48.7% of the vote to Cunningham’s 46.9%.
