Sunset Road Fire in Brunswick County reaches 83% containment

The Sunset Road Fire in Brunswick County, which began on May 2 due to a debris burn, is now 83% contained within its 1,331-acre footprint. The N.C. Forest Service Incident Management Team has prioritized public and firefighter safety throughout the incident.

As of Tuesday, May 13, at 8 a.m., the management of the fire will transition back to local Forest Service personnel. A Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) remains active from the surface up to 3,000 feet altitude. Flying drones in this area is prohibited by law.

The N.C. Forest Service expressed gratitude to various cooperators who assisted with firefighting efforts and acknowledged support from Brunswick County and the City of Boiling Spring Lakes.

This update marks the final communication regarding the Sunset Road Fire in Boiling Spring Lakes.
