The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality State Energy Office has announced a change in venue for its upcoming public engagement session in Fayetteville. The meeting, part of the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant’s Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP) initiative, will now take place at the Cumberland County East Regional Public Library.
This session is one of several designed to gather public input on strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Attendees are encouraged to provide feedback on existing community climate strategies and discuss new initiatives or project ideas related to greenhouse gas reduction.
Scheduled for 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the session aims to involve the community in shaping North Carolina's approach to climate action. Additional information about other sessions can be accessed online, with registration available through a provided form.
The Climate Pollution Reduction Grant program, part of the federal Inflation Reduction Act, supports states and local governments in developing plans to cut greenhouse gas emissions. North Carolina's CPRG planning project involves multiple state departments and received $3 million from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its planning phase.
In 2024, North Carolina submitted a Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP), outlining key measures for reducing emissions while ensuring equitable implementation across communities. The ongoing development of the CCAP will build upon this foundation by updating and expanding current strategies based on scientific research and best practices.
Public engagement is crucial for DEQ as it seeks input on integrating existing community strategies into the state's climate action framework. Feedback from these sessions will guide future projects and priorities within the program.
Residents can participate in these sessions either virtually or in person and are also invited to submit comments via email or voicemail. More details about past sessions and priority measures can be found on DEQ's website.
