The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) is scheduled to convene on February 26 and 27 at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront, located at 100 Middle Street in New Bern. The public can attend the meeting either in person or online.
The CRC's regular business meeting will commence at 3 p.m. on February 26 and continue at 9 a.m. on February 27. A public comment session is planned for noon on February 27, with comments potentially limited to three minutes per individual, depending on the chair’s discretion. Additionally, the Coastal Resources Advisory Council will hold an in-person meeting on February 26 at 1 p.m., also at the DoubleTree New Bern Riverfront.
On February 26, agenda items include consideration of variance requests related to an oceanfront setback in North Topsail Beach and sandbags for The Shoals Club on Bald Head Island. A public hearing will address the installation and maintenance of wheat straw bales for sand fencing.
February 27's agenda involves a closed session regarding CRC vs. RRC updates, objections from the Rules Review Commission, and procedural matters when a commission objects to a permanent rule. Other topics include discussions on ocean hazard setbacks, major permits follow-up, recommendations for permanent rulemaking concerning environmental concerns, use standards for ocean hazard areas, periodic review of land use planning, petitions for rulemaking procedures related to estuarine waters, and updates on litigation of interest.
