A traffic shift is set to take place on Durant Road in Wake County this weekend as part of a passenger rail project. Contractors working for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will narrow lanes between Hawksmoor and Capital Hills drives to facilitate the construction of a bridge for the S-Line Passenger Rail Service. The completed bridge will allow Durant Road traffic to pass over the railroad tracks.

The work is scheduled to begin on February 8, with crews blocking the center turn lane to remove turn arrows along Durant Road. This will limit left turns and U-turns, with signs posted to indicate where these maneuvers are permitted.

Traffic patterns may change throughout the day; however, at least one lane in each direction will remain open. The traffic shift is expected to be in place for most of the bridge's construction, which is anticipated to be finished by spring 2027.

Although there is no official detour, NCDOT advises drivers to consider alternate routes if possible and plan ahead due to potential delays. Drivers are also urged to exercise caution near construction areas.
