The North Carolina Department of Transportation, in collaboration with Blythe Development, is set to begin the N.C. 150 improvement project next week. This development will take place in Catawba and Iredell counties and spans six miles from Greenwood Road in Terrell to U.S. 21 in Mooresville.

Starting Monday night, contract crews will work between U.S. 21 and Morrison Parkway to install erosion control measures and conduct necessary tree removal. Lane closures are permitted between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., while other construction activities may occur during the day without impacting traffic lanes.

The project aims to widen N.C. 150 from four lanes to six between Greenwood Road and U.S. 21. It also involves constructing new bridges at the I-77 interchange and over Lake Norman, upgrading traffic signals, and enhancing drainage systems within the corridor.

Additionally, reduced conflict intersections will be introduced as part of this project to simplify traffic movements by minimizing conflict points between vehicles. This design eliminates left turns from side roads onto main arteries by utilizing raised medians that direct side road traffic into right turns, followed by a dedicated U-turn location less than 1,000 feet away for those needing to go in the opposite direction. A continuous flow intersection is also planned for N.C. 150 & Williamson/Bluefield roads.
