Presidential candidate Donald J. Trump has helped initiate a GoFundMe campaign to mobilize MAGA supporters in providing financial relief to Americans impacted by Hurricane Helene, which caused extensive damage to communities in western North Carolina and other states.
“President Trump has launched a GoFundMe campaign as an official response for MAGA supporters to offer their financial assistance to fellow Americans impacted by Hurricane Helene,” Team Trump wrote in a Sept. 30 social media post on X. “Any level of generosity is appreciated!”
The GoFundMe campaign, organized by Meredith ORourke, was launched to raise aid for those impacted by Hurricane Helene. According to the campaign, Trump visited impacted communities and was personally involved with the aid campaign.
“The campaign is aimed at helping Americans affected by the storm, particularly across the Southeastern U.S. Donations will go to those most in need, and contributions of any amount are encouraged to provide relief for victims of the hurricane.”
The GoFundMe campaign received more than $1.5 million in less than 24 hours and has currently raised more than $3.3 million in donations.
Hurricane Helene struck the Southeastern U.S. from Sept. 24 to 27. The storm reached Category 4 status with winds up to 140 mph, making landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on Sept. 27. The storm brought heavy rains and powerful winds to western North Carolina, causing widespread flooding and damage across the state. Many communities experienced significant infrastructure damage, leaving thousands without power and forcing evacuations. North Carolina has since been involved in extensive recovery efforts to address the severe damage caused by the storm.
