A recent survey of North Carolina voters, commissioned by the League of American Workers (LAW), indicates that two-thirds believe that the "American Dream" is increasingly unattainable for most people in the state. Additionally, 61 percent disapprove of President Joe Biden’s economic stewardship.

According to the survey, 67 percent of likely voters, who assert that the "American Dream" is beyond reach, transcend partisan political lines. This includes 60 percent of self-identified Democrats and 66 percent of independents who agree with this sentiment.

"The promise of tomorrow has always been a key driver of America. Now, far too many citizens do not believe that the American Dream is attainable, and they lay much of the blame upon Joe Biden and his policies," Steve Cortes, LAW president and founder, told Old North News. "Americans lose hope for the future and lack confidence that their children will live better lives, which was always a fundamental promise of America. Americans realize that our country increasingly becomes a rigged oligarchy, a place ruled by powerful cronies rather than the empowered masses of citizens."

The survey was carried out by North Star Opinion Research and published by LAW. It also found that by a margin of 61 to 35 percent, North Carolinians disapprove of Biden’s handling of the economy. Among independents, nearly two-thirds — 65 percent — share this disapproval.

The poll also sheds light on North Carolinians’ feelings about the impact of Biden's economy on the working class. According to its findings, 62 percent of respondents believe that, under Biden's administration, the economy does not provide ample opportunities for the working class to get ahead. Moreover, this belief is shared by 71 percent of voters earning less than $50,000 per year and 66 percent of rural and small-town voters.

Cortes has an extensive professional background including 25 years trading global currencies and interest rates for international hedge funds. He has also served as an on-air broadcaster for CNBC, Fox News, and CNN, according to the LAW website. Cortes established LAW in 2022 with the aim of conducting research and developing proposals on public policies impacting American workers and the economy.
