North Carolina's unemployment rate hit 5.2% among residents aged 16 and 65 years old in 2021. That's 273,629 people out of the 10,367,022 living in North Carolina at the time, according to data U.S. Census Bureau data obtained on Oct. 26, 2023.

The unemployment rate in North Carolina has decreased compared to the 5.3% registered in 2020.

The percentage of people unemployed in North Carolina was nearly equal to the national unemployment rate of 5.5%.

Of the 4,945,973 people who had a job during that time, 100,205 were employed in the Armed Forces and 4,845,768 belonged to the civilian labor force.
