Washington, D.C. — Senator Ted Budd (R-NC) has co-sponsored S. 1271, the Fentanyl Eradication and Narcotics Deterrence (FEND) Off Fentanyl Act.

The bill would strengthen current law by directing the Treasury Department to target, sanction, and block the financial assets of transnational criminal organizations that traffic in deadly drugs like fentanyl.

The bill was originally introduced by Senator Tim Scott (R-SC).

Sen. Budd said in a statement:

“International drug cartels are taking advantage of President Biden’s weak border policies to flood our country with dangerous drugs like fentanyl. Trafficking is making these criminal organizations rich and costing thousands of Americans their lives. To end this vicious cycle, I’m proud to sponsor Senator Tim Scott’s bill to choke off the income stream for those who traffic in synthetic opioids.”
