Conover police are seeking the public’s help in solving the case of a woman who was shot to death while she was in her home.

Tinikia Hodges, 48, was discovered at her home on 2nd Street Southwest on Thursday afternoon. Police are investigating her death as a homicide, WBTV reported.

The slaying has left family members mourning and asking for witnesses to come forward.

“Tinikia was my first [daughter], but I tell you, if you would’ve met her you would’ve loved her too because she was a very good person,” Diane Bender, Tinikia’s mother, told the news station. “That girl is so loved and now I have to have a funeral for her."

Bender described her daughter as outgoing, thoughtful and hardworking, and said she and daughter used to plan summer getaways together.

Hodges worked at Flowers Bakeries in Newton, and the business called when Hodges didn’t show up for work. Bender went to Hodges’ home and found her in her bed with what was confirmed as a bullet wound on her head.

“I went to her and she was just like ice,” she told the news report. “I said, ‘Oh my gosh, my baby’s dead, my baby’s dead.’”

Police have not made an arrest, which is adding to Bender’s stress. “I don’t know why it’s taking so long,” she said.

The situation was such that Bender believes the shooter is someone Hodges knew and she is urging them to turn themselves in.

Witnesses are asked to call the Conover Police Department.
