U.S. Rep.-elect Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) has indicated he will contest the Electoral College vote.
Cawthorn said the challenge is an example of democracy in action.
“The right to vote in a free and fair election is the cornerstone of our Republic. Attempts to subvert the Constitutional authority of state legislatures to conduct elections strikes at the very heart of representative government. I choose to stand in the breach, to fight for us,” Cawthorn said in a tweet.
Cawhorn, 25, will be the youngest member of Congress as well as the first member to be born in the '90s.
The vote is set to be certified Jan. 6. Cawthorn will be sworn into office Jan. 3.
Cawthorn joins a increasing number of House members who have pledged to contest the vote.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has advised his body’s members from contesting the vote.
U.S. Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville has indicated that he will certify the vote.
