Salary Range: $58,496 - $90,669

Position Title: Network Administrator

General Description of Duties

Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to design, organize, modify, install, and support a countywide computer network. The Network Administrator will support and modify LANs, WANs, Internet and intranet systems, and network segments. Work includes operation and maintenance of multiple networks; analysis and installation of a variety of hardware and software applications; troubleshooting and resolving problems; identifying appropriate training courses; and maintaining operational systems. Assist the Information Technology Manager by providing technical and administrative direction over a specified area of responsibility. An employee in this class follows the procedures and instructions outlined in the Information Technology Department. Performs related work as directed.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Install and support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.

• Install and maintain network hardware and software.

• Analyze and troubleshoot computer and network issues.

• Provide network support to end users.

• Ensure network connectivity throughout a company's LAN/WAN infrastructure is on par with technical considerations.

• Create and maintain the appropriate permissions for users using an Active Directory system.

• Perform IT Help desk duties when required.

• Perform related duties as directed.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Evaluate and modify computer and network performance. Look for ways to improve the existing wired and wireless network infrastructure.

• Work with local telecom providers as needed to troubleshoot and improve existing phone and internet services.

• Administer Windows and Linux based servers, Windows 10 based desktop computers, printers, routers, switches, firewalls, phones, software deployment, security updates and patches.

• Maintain network connectivity of a Windows 10 based computer environment.

• Maintain integrity of the network, server deployment, and security.

• Maintain network facilities in individual machines, such as drivers and settings of personal computers as well as printers.

• Maintain network servers such as file servers, VPN gateways, Microsoft Exchange server, antivirus software and intrusion detection systems.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

This position requires considerable knowledge of:

• Current computer technology in hardware, software and various applications and configurations.

• How computer technology can be integrated into the environment for a variety of applications and purposes.

• SQL Database.

• Customer service, vendor and project management.

This position requires the ability to:

• Analyze, diagnose, and solve computer hardware, network and application problems.

• Plan, supervise and coordinate a variety of special computer projects.

• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, County officials and vendors.

Qualifications

Minimum Training and Experience: Requires an Associate's Degree in an Information Technology related field and/or two (2) years of experience of computer networking; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Training and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in an Information Technology related field and/or five (5) years of experience of computer networking. Working knowledge of Windows Server operating system and Microsoft Hyper V.

Special Requirement: On-call availability for critical mission Public Safety computer systems.
