A Georgia man who, along with his brother, operated outpatient care centers for at-risk youths pleaded guilty recently to defrauding the Medicaid program in North Carolina out of more than $6 million from 2015 to 2017.
Tony Garrett Taylor pleaded guilty on Nov. 5 to submitting bills to Medicaid for services that were either misrepresented or not performed at all, and to attempting to evade taxes on that income as well, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a news release.
His brother, Jerry Lewis Taylor, pleaded guilty in June to health care fraud conspiracy as well as tax evasion.
The Taylors included other people in their scheme to overbill Medicaid, and three of their associates have also been charged.
The Justice Department alleged Tony Taylor as the "leader of the conspiracy." He allegedly recruited co-conspirators in the scheme and obtained prospective patient lists used in perpetrating the Medicaid fraud.
