Steve Cortes, founder of the League of American Workers, has said that a recent stabbing incident on a Charlotte light-rail train should prompt renewed scrutiny of immigration enforcement and transit safety.

“Again,” said Cortes. “Charlotte violence, on the train. This time, a known dangerous illegal attacks. This foreign scumbag was punted from America by Trump AND…let back in by Biden’s open border, free to stab an American victim!”

According to Cortes, the incident aboard Charlotte’s Lynx Blue Line involved a suspect identified by Fox News as Oscar Solarzano. Reports indicate that Solarzano was in the United States illegally and had previously been removed from the country. A Justice Department release detailed the December 5 incident on the light-rail system, which resulted in serious injuries to the victim and led to federal charges.

Federal prosecutors noted that the defendant had been “twice-removed” from the U.S., filing a criminal complaint related to the attack. This highlights how immigration history can play a role in violent crime cases. Under federal law, reentering the U.S. without authorization after removal is considered a crime, often applied when repeated unlawful entries occur following deportation proceedings.

The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) states that its Safety & Security operation is tasked with maintaining day-to-day security across transit services. CATS collaborates with law enforcement partners to address incidents on rail and bus lines through a layered approach involving uniformed personnel, surveillance, and coordinated response procedures—strategies frequently emphasized after high-profile crimes on public transit.

Cortes is also president of League of American Workers and serves as a senior political advisor to CatholicVote. He has previously worked as a senior advisor to President Trump and JD Vance and has appeared as a commentator for Fox News and CNN.
