State coastal commission sets meeting dates in New Bern with public input session

The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission (CRC) will hold its next regular business meeting on August 27 and 28 at the Tryon Palace – History Center in New Bern. The commission will convene at 1:30 p.m. on August 27 and resume at 9 a.m. the following day.

A public input and comment period is scheduled for August 27 at 3:00 p.m. Comments may be limited to three minutes per person, depending on the chair’s discretion. Members of the public can attend either in person or online via the CRC livestream available on DEQ’s YouTube channel.

On August 27, agenda items include consideration of variance requests for properties in Carolina Beach and Frisco, review of existing rules, adoption of new regulations related to urban waterfronts and ocean hazard areas, fiscal analysis approval for permits concerning bridge and culvert replacements, approval of the Bogue Banks Beach Management Plan, and a proposed closed session regarding litigation.

On August 28, the commission will review rules pertaining to the North Carolina Coastal Reserve, receive updates from annual rule reviews, discuss inlet hazard area boundaries based on a science panel report, consider approval of oceanfront and inlet erosion rates with setback factors, and get an update on ongoing litigation relevant to the commission.

The Coastal Resources Advisory Council will not meet in August.
